The Benefits of Mountain Biking

The benefits of mountain biking are endless, and it is clear why is has become such a popular sport. Mountain biking is a brand-new sport if you compare it to many of the other popular sports today. It has evolved quite a bit in its short lifetime and has seen continual growth

If you have never considered trying mountain biking or you just need a little more convincing, then read on for some of the benefits of mountain biking

Health Benefits

One of the greatest benefits of mountain biking, are the various ways it can improve your health. Mountain biking provides a great cardio workout no matter what type of terrain you are riding. On top of getting a great cardio workout, mountain biking also works the muscles of the entire body. Your legs will burn while climbing up hills, and your upper body and arms will burn as you come downhill. At the end of a riding session you will be able to feel this throughout your entire body and it’s great! Here are some more health benefits of mountain biking

Covid-19

If Covid-19 has impacted your activities that you were into before the pandemic hit, mountain biking is a great alternative to check out. Mountain biking has essentially been unchanged during this pandemic. While heavily populated bike parks with chairlift access do have some restrictions, most of the sport has remained untouched. Social distancing is easy out in the forest and you can even mountain bike in very remote or secluded locations. Turn this negative into a positive and give mountain biking a try

Improved Creativity

One benefit people may not think of when it come to mountain biking is that it improves your creativity. It may not be noticeable at first, but as you continually bike and progress your skills, you will start to see and bike differently. This is something that takes time, but eventually you will start to hit trails differently and notice different ways to ride them that you have never thought of before. You might even get into trail building where you can begin to envision trails that have not been made yet or improve and help with existing ones (with permission of course).

Satisfaction

Mountain biking, like many things, is something that you can be constantly progressing in. For some the progression and perseverance within the sport of mountain biking provides a great sense of satisfaction. There are skills that can take years to master, but for the most part you get to choose what you want out of mountain biking. There is always a goal to strive for in mountain biking and it feels great when you accomplish those goals. And if you get tired of it, there is a huge variety of mountain biking now where you can find completely new challenges and styles of riding. Check out this post.

Social

One of the best parts about mountain biking are the people. It is easy to make friends on the trails and its always fun to ride in a group. If you don’t have anyone to ride with, there are probably local ride groups looking for people just like you. Mountain bike associations like OMBA have weekly group rides as well as women ride groups to help show people the local trails.

The list of benefits goes on, but these are just a few things to consider if you are unsure whether you would like the sport. Go give it a try and see what else mountain biking has to offer.
